Heritage Impact Statement for roof replacement in Rockingham

65 Kent Street, Rockingham is a Category B heritage place listed on the City of Rockingham's Municipal Heritage Inventory and the State Heritage Register. The property owners engaged Trace to prepare a Heritage Impact Statement (HIS) for safety works: the removal and replacement of the rear section of the roof, which was installed in the 1960s and is affected by asbestos. The HIS assessed the works against the City of Rockingham's Local Planning Policy 3.3.21 - Heritage Development and Design (LPP3.3.21).

The proposed works

The works involve replacing the existing asbestos corrugated sheeting with white Colorbond sheeting. The red roof tiles, a significant and identifiable feature of the property, will remain untouched.

Findings

Our Heritage Impact Statement (HIS) concluded that the changes would not adversely impact the property's heritage significance. The replacement sheeting would maintain the building's aesthetic harmony, and retaining the red tiles preserves the core character and heritage value of the place.

Our assessment found that the proposed works align with the heritage conservation objectives set by the City of Rockingham, including the requirements of LPP3.3.21.
